Healthy Eating in Toddlers

I try to feed my boys healthy food everyday but sometimes the healthy eating falls out the window but we jump back on the horse the very next day. I have been trying to freeze meals for the boys so that the days we are at work until late we don’t have to wait for dinner which can take an half an hour to an hour and the boys get grumpy waiting as they are tired from being at childcare all day and have no patience left at the end of the day.

We go grocery shopping every fortnight and buy enough food for two weeks. We try to organise so that we don’t have to buy a lot of groceries and stock up every fortnight so we have a stockpile pantry for

Toilet paper
Pasta
Laundry powder
Pasta sauces
Tinned spaghetti
Tinned Baked beans
Tinned soups
Tinned tomatoes
Tinned beans
Continental packet meal sauces

When grocery shopping we buy fruit and vegetables that the boys enjoy as if they don’t enjoy it they won’t eat it. From Sunday the 24th of September I will have meals frozen in portions for my partner, the boys and myself so we are eating healthier than when nothing is prepared for dinner.

I need some ideas for dinners please. Let me know what you cook as I can cook different meals so my partner, the boys and I don’t get bored of the frozen meals.

What I need to buy for preparing my meals to go into the freezer for the fortnights dinners. I just need to start being organised so my partner and I can spend more time with the boys rather than cooking or cleaning. I don’t want my boys to have Type 2 Diabetes as I had Gestational Diabetes while I was pregnant with Spencer and Patrick so we are all able to get type 2 because I had it when pregnant.

I have included some information about diabetes so that everyone can be aware of the signs and symptoms to look out for so you can get diagnosed with Diabetes.

( Type 2 Diabetes: The Basics

Diabetes is a life-long disease that affects the way your body handles glucose, a kind of sugar, in your blood. Most people with the condition have type 2. There are about 27 million people in the U.S. with it. Another 86 million have prediabetes: Their blood glucose is not normal, but not high enough to be diabetes yet.

What Causes Diabetes?
Your pancreas makes a hormone called insulin. It’s what lets your cells turn glucose from the food you eat into energy. People with type 2 diabetes make insulin, but their cells don’t use it as well as they should. Doctors call this insulin resistance. At first, the pancreas makes more insulin to try to get glucose into the cells. But eventually it can’t keep up, and the sugar builds up in your blood instead. )

From now on I will do some home cooking for our dinner so that the boys and I don’t get TYPE 2 Diabetics.

My pledge is to:

A home cooked meal every night from the 24th of September 2017 onwards
A 30 to 1 hour walk every night as a family
More fruits and vegetables
Less package food items
Less sugary items only at special occasions
We will also do this as a family to connect better and talk about life more.

This paragraph was added on 30th of September 2017:

I have cooked dinner for the boys, partner and I and they have been healthy and if we had leftovers I would freeze them for another night so if we get home late from work we can heat something up and eat straight away rather than waiting for our dinner to be cooked. Will continue to come cook healthy yummy meals for my partner, boys and I. We will get healthier than we are right now.
Please keep motivating me to be a great partner, mother, and childcare educator.
